Types of How Does Laser Hair Removal Work

Targeting Hair Follicles: Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment (melanin) in hair follicles. The laser emits a concentrated beam of light that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft.

Heat Absorption: The absorbed light energy is converted into heat, damaging the hair follicle while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. This process inhibits future hair growth.

Treatment Areas: During the procedure, the technician applies the laser to the treatment area, delivering precise pulses of light energy. Depending on the size of the area, treatments can range from a few minutes to an hour.

Multiple Sessions: To achieve significant hair reduction, multiple sessions are typically required. Hair grows in cycles, and laser treatment is most effective during the active growth phase (anagen). Sequential sessions target hairs at different stages of growth, ensuring comprehensive treatment over time.

Most of our clients describe the feeling as a small rubber band snap with some areas being more sensitive than others. Our machines are equipped with a cooling mechanism that cools the skin before, during and after each pass with the handpiece. Laser hair removal is FAR LESS painful than other forms of hair removal like waxing.

Results are unique to each individual client. Typically clients come in for a duration of 6-12 months but more or less treatments may be needed.

It is recommended to come in every 4-6 weeks for a series of 6-12 months.

We use the state of the art Cynosure Elite IQ. This machine is equipped with the Alexandrite and the Nd:YAG to effectively treat customers regardless of skin type or tone. We also use the Cynosure Skintel melanin reader to help prevent burns.

You can shave 7-10 days after treatments but no waxing or plucking as this can cause the hair follicle to regrow. Shaving is required 24-48 hours before treatment.

Laser hair removal is approved by the FDA as a permanent hair reduction method. Most clients report complete or significant remnant reduction after their full series of laser hair removal. In some individuals, fluctuating hormones can stimulate regrowth which we recommend to come in for a touch up.

Make sure to shave the area 24-48 hours before your appointment and avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning for two weeks. Avoid using harsh chemicals or exfoliating skincare products.
